Salvia 'Hot Lips' is one of those plants that is so pretty and has so many flowers that you don't even care if it's low-water or not, you just want it in your garden! Good news! 'Hot Lips' loves hot, dry areas, but also works perfectly in areas that get regular water! A very adaptable and easy to grow plant - beautiful red & white flowers attract humans, hummingbirds and butterflies all year. Truly a 12-month flowering shrub in most parts of Ventura County, the flowers may occasionally be pure white or completely red, but most often are a striking mix of white and red. Grows fast and gets BIG, count on at least 2 1/2 to 4 feet tall and up to 6 feet wide. Loves HOT sun but doesn't mind part shade, where it will flower less but still rock the house. Leaves have nice sharp grapefruit fragrance. Prune this heavy-flowering shrub hard once or twice a year to keep it neat, compact and flowering consistently. Native to Mexico.
